At the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games was the occasion when she became a legend when she became the first to achieve a perfect 10, in asymmetric bars. In addition she scored six more perfect tens, thereby becoming the youngest all-around Olympic gold medalist, at just 14 years of age. The Romanian gymnast did not only draw attention from all directions and help Romania to establish itself on the map of the world. In achieving an unachievable result her sporting legend became a legendary figure and promoted gymnastics across the globe. The perception of women gymnasts was changed by her performances. The effect she had on Olympics was so powerful that two of her movements, the toe-on move and release, are named in her honor. Both are rated as high-level difficulty. Besides Olympics her performance was impressive. She also showed outstanding performance at both the World Championships and European Championships too, making her a living legend and one of the best-known gymnasts that the world can ever have. The US she was able to advertise sporting goods and models after leaving her native country.
